Music instantly cuts in and lasts throughout the entire opening credits, the music is very "slick" so it gives indication to the type of character people are going to be seeing. The main actor's name (Daniel Craig) then appears in the center of the screen as various card house symbols (hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds) emerge from the center and spiral outwards. Craig's name is mentioned first as he IS the movie and particular attention has been paid to his name as this was his first film playing the role of Bond. The card symbols summarize the plot and themes of the film as it links in with the film's title :Casino Royale. The symbols tell us that the film will be based around a casino and card games and probably gambling, as the word casino gives connotations of gambling. The idea of gambling also links with Bond's overall character as in previous films (Dr No for example) he is shown playing poker and winning a lot of money from it. The card symbols and film title help to provide evidence and support this characters trait.
The various other actors names appear in the center of the screen as to give them focus, however a black and white bond is seen perched with a silenced pistol. "Arteries and veins" around the top of the screen and they all contain the same casino style pattern - helping further reinforce themes of the film. A jack theme predominantly appears on the left side of the screen and aims a gun at the same time bond does. This introduces us to the more violent side of the plot and shows us that the film will contain a lot of action and that the themes will mix. The arteries and veins (appropriately coloured red and blue) give connotations of violence as blood gives an indication of death and injury.
A gun is then pictured and it fires a heart, once again combining the ideas of the film together as the heart is used to represent a bullet and a club is used to represent the muzzle flash of the gun. This is image/animation is duplicated and flipped as to fit around the edge of the screen as so another name can be shown. A heart s then shown travelling (like a bullet) towards a silhouetted man where it strikes him and he explodes into numerous other card symbols. The idea of a casino is used as a generalized style format for the entire sequence. The man "exploding" symbolises death and once again gives indication to the audience about the more violent action-packed side to the film.
The same silhouetted style is used again but this time it is 2 men fighting. The men are both in suits but one is coloured in black and the other red. The audience instantly assume the black silhouette is bond as in all his films he wears a black suit - showing continuity in the franchise- whilst we know the person coloured red is the bad guy as the colour red symbolises danger and is usually used to represent an enemy. The same style is used in several fight scenes with bind winning each one against numerous enemies, this gives the audience indication of his skill and ability.
The same blood vessel style is seen again as they break in half and pour out red hearts which symbolise blood, this synchronises with the word "veins" in the song.
the cross hairs of a rifle scope then appear on the screen moving around as if searching for a target, this supports the action in the film and the sorts of scenes you will see. Various card symbols are then used to portray knives as enemies are stabbed with them, creating pools of blood when they fall down. This emphasises the more "graphic" side of the film.Techniques seen earlier in the sequence are then repeated to support theme.
The cross hairs move over and aim at a number 7 card shooting twice before the 7. The bullet holes on the card spell 007 which is James Bond's code name this gives further indication into his character. A graphic match is used to show the sentence "007 status confirmed" on a computer which informs the audience about where the film is set in the franchise. It tells us that chronologically it comes first as he has only just become a 00 agent. The sequence then ends with the black silhouetted figure stepping forward and showing Daniel Craig. This shows us that his character is very slick and matches previous interpretations of the spy, setting up Daniel Craig as a successful Bond.
